Portugal experienced a huge power cut from April 28 – 29 which led to large scale disruptions at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport, cancelling flights and stranding travelers. Flight schedules between Lisbon and Dubai had the most impact with massive system outages leading to numerous cancellations and delays.
Airport check ins, security checks, and boarding processes stalled which created several hours of operational logjams. Airline employees made every effort to assist passengers with rerouting, but the lack of power made everything from communication systems to automatic booking tools very difficult.
This type of disruption denotes the extent to which air travel is subjected to outside forces. Without any information concerning flight status from the airline, the customers were put in an extremely uncertain situation.
