Such serene Greek islands like Paros and Mykonos have recently been struck by violent flash floods as a consequence of harsh rains pouring down on the region. The damages wrought by the rains have already been immense, and predictions show that they will likely continue to stretch on until Tuesday.
Naoussa Hit Hard: Creek Overflows and Sweeps Away Vehicles
Naoussa has already been regarded as one of the most flooded areas due to the sudden downpour of rain. Paros Island is home to this beautiful fishing village. In the hopes of helping his people, Mayor Costas Bizas announced that a local creek had overflowed due to near constant rainfall that flooded roads and damaged buildings. Even more worrying is the fact that close to 40 vehicles were caught in the water as it was rising at such a fast pace.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported considering the massive flooding that was occurring.

The torrential downpours have not only been restricted to Naoussa. Other regions of Paros and Mykonos have also been impacted to a greater degree with roads submerged, properties destroyed, and litter strewn throughout the streets. Local businesses including stores, bistros and cafes have been inundated with water which has led to closures and serious interruptions in the routine activities on the islands.
The tourism and nightlife capital Mykonos has also suffered the consequences. While the Island of Mykonos seems to be facing a lesser degree of damage than Paros, there are still major concerns as flood waters are submerging transport and business centers. Paros is facing the brunt of the destruction. Mykonos is facing severe flooding and with the rains still continuing, clean up is difficult.
Storm Continues So Alertness Must Increase
Local authorities have further extended alerts as weather advisors expect rains to persist till Tuesday. Evacuation and first aid teams are already on standby ready to mobilize at a moment’s notice to assist in any rescue operations.
