A sharp 10% rise in vehicle ownership over the past two years, compared to the global average of just 2–4%, has put increasing pressure on the city’s roadways. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (rta) is taking proactive measures to address congestion and ensure smooth transportation in the city, implementing a sustainable and long-term action plan.

This significant increase in traffic prompted discussions at the federal national council (fnc) in March, where Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail al Mazrouei proposed implementing stricter car ownership regulations as part of a comprehensive national solution.
